Overview
Dubstation 2 is the original dub delay plugin. For more than 20 years it has been a studio standard for engineers, producers, and performers chasing that sound: round, saturated repeats and pitch-bending feedback that only a bucket-brigade delay can produce. Dubstation 2 covers everything from short slapback through tape-style modulation to wide ping-pong patterns and runaway dub sirens. Independent left and right delay times, analog-style saturation, low- and high-cut filters in the feedback path, an LFO for chorus and pitch sweeps, plus reverse and loop modes give you a deep palette without burying you in menus. Used live and in the studio on thousands of commercial productions across dub, reggae, dub techno, ambient, hip hop, electronic, and post-rock records.
What's New in v2.4
-
Tap Tempo with a new Sync Source switch lets you set the delay clock from a three-tap front-panel button instead of host BPM.
-
MIDI Tap drives the tap button from any MIDI note or CC, configured in the new Settings panel.
-
Mix Lock padlock keeps the current wet/dry balance when you switch presets, so an audition never yanks your mix.
-
New shared preset browser matching the rest of the Audio Damage line, with folder navigation, copy and paste of preset state, import and export of zipped folders, and one-click random name generation.
-
Default preset support. Save a user preset called Default and every new Dubstation 2 instance opens with your settings instead of the factory state.
-
30 new factory presets covering dub, slapback, ambient, modulated, and experimental territory.
Features
-
Bucket-brigade delay model. Audio Damage's signature BBD algorithm, refined since 2002, with the frequency-response shift that defines real analog delay character at long delay times.
-
Two delay lines. Single, dual, or ping-pong mode. In dual mode each channel runs its own time, range, and feedback path.
-
Tempo sync or free running. Lock to host BPM, drive the tap-tempo button from the front panel or MIDI, or run free for unsynced washes.
-
Time range from 4ms to 2 seconds with an x2 Time switch for long dub-style repeats and feedback experiments.
-
Analog-style saturation with a single Amount control that takes you from subtle warmth to outright distortion.
-
Low-cut and high-cut filters in the feedback path for classic dub-style filter sweeps and runaway feedback control.
-
LFO modulation of delay time for chorusing, doubling, vibrato, and chirpy pitch sweeps.
-
Reverse and Loop modes turn Dubstation 2 into a reverse delay or a clean infinite looper at the flip of a switch.
-
Width control from mono-summed to fully wide stereo on the wet signal.
-
Mix Lock protects your wet/dry balance during preset auditioning.
-
Cross-platform XML preset format compatible across plugin formats and operating systems, with Handoff between desktop and the iOS version.
Sound Design Ideas
Tap a quarter-note in on the new TAP button and roll the Feedback knob from -7dB to runaway for live dub sirens. Engage the Mix Lock and audition the 30 new factory presets without losing your mix balance. Set up dual mode with a dotted-eighth on the left and a quarter on the right for huge ping-pong patterns. Run a guitar into single mode with Saturation around 25%, Low Cut around 200Hz, and slow LFO for warm chorused slapback. Drop the High Cut to 1.5kHz and crank Feedback for tape-style wash. Hit Loop on a vocal phrase, then sweep the filters for an evolving texture. Reverse a kick or snare hit for fills. Save your favorite as a user preset called Default so every new instance opens exactly the way you work.
