Overview
Replicant 3 is a real-time audio slicing and mangling effect, the third generation of one of the OGs of the FSU genre. Feed it any audio, and Replicant's sequencer captures, loops, reverses, and re-slices it on the fly, layering in delay, filtering, panning, ring modulation, and bit-crushing to turn predictable tracks into something unpredictable. Rebuilt from bare metal for version 3, with an all-new sequencer engine, expanded effects, and a redesigned interface that makes programming complex slice patterns fast and intuitive.
Features
- Sequencer with 3 to 16 steps per measure and multiple step-size modes (dotted notes through nontuplets) for rhythmic patterns that go well beyond straight time.
- Four slice effects: the original Stutter capture-and-repeat, plus Delay, Redukt (bit-crushing/sample-rate reduction), and Ring Mod for tonal destruction.
-
Envelope crossfading on slice events for smooth transitions or hard-gated rhythmic chops.
- Per-step probability, direction (forward/reverse), and effect routing let you build patterns that evolve and surprise.
- Manual trigger mode for touchscreen performance and MIDI trigger for non-sequenced, on-demand slicing from a controller or DAW.
- Redesigned GUI built around a visual step sequencer: see your pattern at a glance and edit it without menu-diving.
- Cross-platform preset manager with XML-based presets compatible across all plugin formats and operating systems.
Sound Design Ideas
Sequence stuttering vocal chops with per-step filter sweeps. Build glitched-out drum fills by randomizing slice direction and bit-crushing depth. Layer ring modulation on sustained pads for metallic, evolving textures. Use MIDI trigger mode to manually fire slices in a live performance. Program polyrhythmic slice patterns with odd step counts against 4/4 time. Run full mixes through Replicant on a bus for controlled chaos breakdowns.
